What to pay attention when planning a closet in a room? Designing and planning a closet seems very simple, and for some it's the last step in planning furniture in the house. However, you should pay attention to several aspects that are very important when planning your storage and organization space. Whether it's a custom-made closet or a PAX modular closet from IKEA or another chain store, there are a few details to keep in mind. We have prepared a short checklist for you, according to which you can check your project.
TIP 1
Overhanging window sill / if the closet is placed sideways to the window make sure that the closet door, when opened, can open to a full angle. If the front is in collision with the window sill after opening, it is necessary to plan a filler piece in this place. Look at the drawing.
TIP 2
Curtain rod over the window / A similar situation to the first example, but this time the collision is created by the curtain rod over the window. If the front stays in collision with the curtain rod after opening the door, you need to plan the filler piece here too - make it according to the drawing.
TIP 3
Tape with casing for outdoor blinds / Analogous situation to the first and second cases, but here the collision is formed by the casing with the tape for opening the outdoor blind.
TIP 4
Collision of the handle with the wall / the so-called "error" from the category of classics. If the side is next to the wall, remember that the handle must not hit the wall for two simple reasons - it causes unpleasant damage to the wall and the handle, and the front does not open to a full angle, so you can not pull out the drawer. The solution is to plan a side panel between the wall and the cabinet body. Such a panel does not need to be the full depth of the cabinet, which also results in economy cost. The panel is usually 18mm thick, so remember to choose a handle with a maximum height of 18mm. If the handles are taller, you will need to plan for a wider blend.
TIP 5
Light switch / another classic. Usually, when entering a room, the light switch is inside the room - when planning a closet, remember to consider its width with the switch on the wall. If you want to maximize the use of space, the switch can be moved to the side of the closet.
TIP 6
Socket / analogous situation to the fifth example. Take a look at the drawing.
TIP 7
Door frame / if your closet is planned at the entrance door to the room (see drawing), there will be a collision when opening the fronts with the door frame. Be sure to plan for a filler piece!
TIP 8
Baseboard / finally we left the most obvious and most often forgotten element in the room that can create a collision with the cabinet. If you have a sticking out baseboard, be sure to include it in your closet planning.
This is a short checklist of the most common obstacles and elements that are very easy to forget about. Remember, however, that every room has its own rules and should be analyzed individually for unwanted surprises.
