Has the decision been made to refresh your IKEA METOD kitchen? A key step is to prepare a list of the fronts and masking elements you need. Exact measurements are important to get a solid and impressive look. In this blog post, we'll show you step-by-step how to measure the size of the fronts you need for your METOD kitchen. Let's get started!
1. Necessary tools
Before you start measuring, make sure you have the following tools on hand:
2. Division of measurements into cabinet types
METOD kitchens consist of different types of cabinets, such as lower cabinets, wall cabinets, tall cabinets and corner cabinets. Before taking measurements, identify the specific types of cabinets that are in your kitchen. This will help you determine the right dimensions for each front and will definitely make measurements easier.
3. Measurement of lower cabinets
Number the fronts of the standing cabinets first - this will make sure you don't miss any. Once you've taken the measurement, you can tape a piece of paper to the front - this will mean that this front has already been measured and noted. Start by measuring the width from one side to the other. Measure the height from the top of the front to the bottom (do not include the plinths!). Make a note of the division of the cabinet into fronts, noting whether it is a drawer or an opening front (mark the left or right opening direction). In the case of a drawer, we will need the height of each drawer, due to their different sizes. Remember to also measure the filler pieces and side masking panels.
4. Measuring wall cabinets
When measuring wall cabinets, also focus on their width and height. Mark the possible division of the fronts and measure each front separately. Make sure if there is a masking panel installed under the wall cabinets - if so, also note its dimensions. Don't forget about the side panels and filler pieces above the cabinets (if any are installed). When taking measurements also mark the measured front with a piece of paper.
5. Measurement of high cabinets
In this case, also focus on measuring the height and width. If there is an oven and/or microwave in the cabinet, make sure if there are complementary filler pieces. Analogous to steps 3 and 4, measure each front separately and mark with a piece of paper when you write down the dimensions. Don't forget to mark whether it is a drawer or left/right opening front. Also measure the side panels or filler pieces.
6. Measuring plinths
In the last step of the measurements, measure the length and height of the plinths.
7. Checking the measurement
After measuring all the cabinets in your METOD kitchen, double check the precision of the measurements. It is necessary to take careful measurements to avoid any problems when ordering or installing the fronts.
8. Photos of the kitchen
Take a few photos of the kitchen, especially ones where the entire kitchen is visible. Shots with side panels are also useful.
Once you have taken the measurements and photos, you can add the necessary items to the shopping cart yourself in our online store. If you are not sure if you have added the items to the cart correctly, you can send us a list of the items and photos by email. We will prepare a calculation and check if all the elements are included in the measurement.
