If you have planned a corner cabinet 128cm wide in the corner (IKEA Poland article number: 602.055.17 ),but the cabinet does not fit the width, nothing lost! We will show you how to modify this cabinet, without losing space for functional storage. Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Prepare tools and materials
Make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials before starting.
You will need:
Step 2: Measure and mark
Carefully measure and plan the space you will have left for the 128cm corner cabinet. Remember, however, that the determinant of the width of this cabinet is the width of the front, which will be modified to a smaller dimension.
Step 3: Safety first
Before you start cutting, make sure you have the proper safety equipment, such as safety glasses. Also secure your work area to avoid damage to the floor, walls or other furniture.
Step 4: Drawing down the cabinet
When modifying a corner cabinet and shortening its width from 128 cm to the wanted size, you must first take into account that the front of this cabinet will decrease from 60 cm. We suggest that the front after modification should be no narrower than 40 cm - then the cabinet is still functional and it is possible to equip it with solutions such as a pull-out system (about equipment later in the article).
The elements marked below will be shortened - that is, the back HDF panel, the lower panel of the cabinet and complementary elements. Before you proceed, draw yourself the final dimensions of the cabinet.
EXAMPLE 1
The space for a corner cabinet with a front that opens to the right side, is 115 cm, this means that we are missing 13 cm for the corner cabinet to fit. In this case, we plan a front with a width of 45 cm. We shorten the marked elements in the figure by 15 cm.
EXAMPLE 2
The space under the corner cabinet is 125 cm, this means that we are missing 3 cm for the corner cabinet to fit. In this case, the front is not reduced. We can make the corner cabinet smaller by modifying the filler piece marked in the figure, as well as other elements.
NOTE! however, remember that the filler piece must not be too small so that the front of the corner cabinet door can open to a full angle. If you have drawers, oven or dishwasher planned next to the corner cabinet, remember that there must be space to open the front or drawer. In addition, the handles must not collide with the front next to it. (DRAWING)
EXAMPLE 3
The space for a corner cabinet is 110 cm, this means that we are missing 18 cm for the corner cabinet to fit. In this case, we plan a front with a width of 40 cm. We shorten the elements marked in the figure by 20 cm.
Remember: it is very important whether your cabinet is a cabinet with left and right doors - we always shorten the elements from the front of the cabinet. The individual examples are for a cabinet with right and left doors - pay attention to this detail in your project. We have marked the elements that will be shortened, depending on the direction of the door opening.
Step 5: Cut the cabinet components
Using a circular saw, cut the pieces according to your sketch and measurements.
Step 6: Assemble the cabinet with the new dimensions
The elements are ready! Following the instructions provided with the cabinet, assemble the cabinet.
Step 7: Purchase the door front
Remember that for a modified corner cabinet you need a front with a smaller size - usually 40 or 45 cm wide. Choose your favorite model from our collection and select the direction of the front opening.
Step 8: Filling the cabinet
As a result of the modification, you now need to plan the equipment of this cabinet. You can opt for a regular shelf or a pull-out system from Peka's offer. Depending on the width of the front, you can opt for the Magic Corner Comfort or LeMans II system.
Good luck with your creation!
